I was a transgender woman for 8 years
My name is Walt Heyer and in April of 1983 I had gender reassignment surgery. At first I was giddy for the fresh start. But hormones and sex change genital surgery couldn’t solve the underlying issues driving my gender dysphoria.
I detransitioned more than 25 years ago. I learned the truth: Hormones and surgery may alter appearances, but nothing changes the immutable fact of your sex.
I met a wonderful woman who didn’t care about the changes to my body, and we’ve been married for over 20 years. Now we help others whose lives have been derailed by sex change.

Love always and Shalom also to you Kristi Ann, Walt, and everyone. No one encouraged me to be a woman in any way throughout my life. I struggled with gender since early childhood and worked to be a good man, a good Christian man throughout my adulthood, until my wife of 30 years divorced me and we had an empty nest. My “bottom surgery” was over a year ago. I do believe I have not changed my God-given sex. I am growing in peace, faith, and all the spiritual nature of Christ Jesus (e.g. those listed in Galatians 5:22). I don’t doubt that many de-transition and many commit suicide post transition. I also know many have many years of greater peace after worked to achieve whatever can be done to “transition”. We cannot pretend to know all underlying causes of everyone’s struggle with gender. Consider that DNA discovery was in its infancy in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Genetic discovery followed. More levels of physical influence on our nature are still being discovered. I did not wait until we found a precise physical cause or partial cause. WPATH provides thorough and minimal standards for careful treatment of so-called transgender persons.
